In this master's thesis, an analysis of a steel column of a rectangular hollow cross- section with dimensions of 160 x 80 x 4 mm, located on the highest floor of a residential-commercial building in London, was conducted. The column is subjected to complex loading conditions, including the weight of facade panels suspended from the column and wind loads. A comprehensive analysis of these loads is also presented in the thesis, with a focus on the transfer of loads through the column to a concrete parapet to which the column is anchored. The analysis of the column was performed using the Straus7 software package based on the finite element method. This analysis is meticulously documented and thoroughly explained to provide a deeper understanding of the analysis and calculation process. Additionally, a deflection calculation of the column's top was carried out using the finite difference method in the Mathcad software package. A comparison between this method and finite element methods is presented in the thesis to highlight their respective advantages and disadvantages. Lastly, the thesis provides insights into the stresses and deformations that occur during the loading of the steel column and concludes with relevant findings. This work represents a significant contribution to understanding the behaviour of steel columns under complex loading conditions and can serve as a valuable reference in engineering practice and the design of similar structures.
