Through this paper, the topic of roughness of the pavement will be presented, with which it is expressed and how it is measured. It is introductory in general about the pavement, its properties and types, and the problems that arise due to incorrect assessments in the design and explantation of the pavement. The next chapter deals only with the theory of pavement management as a concept that provides the best possible management for the money invested while enabling the use of pavements without cancels for traffic, how it is implemented and functional and structural properties of pavements. The roughness of the pavement as an indicator of the most common deviation of the constructed pavement structure and surface from the projected or wrong estimate and the traffic load spectrum affects driving comfort and most importantly driving safety. Various factors are listed and described and affect on the roughness of the pavement, which is expressed by the IRI roughness index, an international model for determining the roughness of a road, a unique indicator of the driver's perception of the roughness of a road. A standardized mathematical model of a quarter passenger car is used to calculate the IRI. Measurement of pavement roughness can be performed with several devices and tools and they differ in their complexity and technology and ultimately in the results they give.
