The traditional division of joints is on ideally pinned and fully rigid joints. But in reality joints behave between mentioned extremes. Proper design and performance of joints greatly enhances the functionality and reliability of the constructions. Therefore, in the paper, special emphasis is placed on the basic characteristics of the joints, which are: resistance, rigidity and ductility. The aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristics and to predict the behavior of one-sided welded joint beam to column. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part describes the basic definitions related to joints and are shown the advantages of steel design and construction. The focus of this paper is to analyze the results of laboratory tests conducted in an equipped for the construction of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Rijeka. Laboratory testing was carried out on welded joint beam to column, HEA cross section, S 235 steel quality. Ultimately, the results obtained are described by the moment -rotation curve of the joint that represented the real behavior of the tested welded joint. The third part deals with the testing 3D FE model in ANSYS software package whose task is to predict a way of cancellation of the bolted joint. The last part of the paper is related to the analysis of the test welded sample not as a single structural member (element) but as part of the overall construction , in this case as part of a steel canopy.
