This thesis deals with the problem of seismic resistance of a traditional masonry residential building that can be found in the center of the city of Rijeka. Such buildings are not uncommon in the area. In these traditional masonry buildings, floor structures are often made of wood. The objective of this thesis is to calculate the seismic resistance of two variations of the traditional masonry building; the first variation involves a building with mentioned wooden floor structure, while the second variation comprises a building with a reinforced concrete slab as the floor structure. These two variations are also the two most common cases of floor structures in traditional masonry buildings. The thesis accurately defines all the characteristics of mentioned floor structures, especially wooden one. In addition to the floor structures themselves, the work also elaborates and defines non-reinforced masonry along with all its mechanical and deformation characteristics. Gravitational and seismic loads are applied to the defined building, which are theoretically described and determined before the calculation. The calculation of seismic resistance was performed in the 3Muri software by nonlinear static analysis known as the „Pushover“ analysis. Results of the analysis indicate that the typical traditional masonry building does not meet the condition of seismic resistance according to the official standard HRN EN 1998-3: 2008 when the maximum predicted seismic load in the area of Rijeka is applied. Comparing the two variations of the building model, it can be seen that the building with a reinforced concrete slab shows better results, but these results are still unsatisfactory.
