In the project task of the final thesis, an existing road is assigned, along which it is necessary to review and calculate visibility in 3 segments: visibility analysis in curves, stopping distance analysis on the road section where a pedestrian crossing is planned, and visibility for passing through the intersection zone. In the first part of the assignment, the history and development of road construction are described, and the classification od roads and their basic technical elements according to the ‘’ Pravilnik o osnovnim uvjetima kojima ceste izvan naselja i njihovi elementi moraju udovoljavati sa stajališta sigurnosti’’, while simultaneously exploring the key role of traffic safety. The main part of the work focuses on safety in both rural and urban areas, as the assigned road section in the city of Opatija is also a state road (D66) with the function of connecting the wider area of Rijeka with the municipalities od Lovran and Mošćenička Draga. This road is also the main city road with numerous connections and intersections linking residential and commercial building, along with significant pedestrian traffic. All of the above can lead to a reduction in the safety of traffic flow, both motorized and pedestrian, and more recently, an increasing volume of bicycle traffic. Ensuring visibility positively impacts the safety of all forms of traffic flow.
