The topic of this thesis is to examine the possibility of using industrial waste as part of a concrete mix. The experimental part of the study was conducted in the Materials Laboratory of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Rijeka, where four concrete mixes were made with the addition of metakaolin and PVC sawdust. After the production of the concrete mixtures, the properties of fresh concrete as well as the mechanical and durability properties of hardened concrete were tested after 28 days. The properties of fresh concrete that were tested include the temperature of the concrete after mixing, consistency using the slump test method, density, and air content. The mechanical properties tested were compressive strength of cubes, flexural tensile strength of prisms, density, and tensile splitting strength of cubes. Durability properties tested were resistance to abrasion and water penetration under pressure (WDP). The tests showed that smaller amounts of PVC positively affect the mechanical and durability properties of concrete, while higher amounts significantly reduce its strength. Therefore, it can be concluded that PVC sawdust can be used in optimal proportions as an additive in concrete, ensuring a balance between durability and strength.
